Eton College is a world-renowned boy’s school in Eton, Berkshire. Dating back to 1440, the school buildings are a blend of historic architecture through to modern-day additions. Recently, the science department underwent a refurbishment in which three separate buildings – including a 1950s, 1980s and Victorian building (collectively known as Queen’s School) – were all interlinked with a new four storey atrium. Working seamlessly with the various architectural styles, the atrium is a celebration of modern-day architecture, creating a shared space at the heart of the science buildings.
We were honoured that our linear lighting solutions were selected by lighting designers Studio 29 throughout the project. Our AFX solutions created clean and minimal lines of light emphasising the stunning architecture, while also delivering wayfinding.
Linear solutions from AFX can be found beneath the bridges, around the door frames and along the bridge, between glass panels. Each length was custom made to suit the differing applications and provide seamless integration.
The lighting to the atrium provides a dynamic and sustainable design which meets the needs of modern-day college life. With our solutions, AFX lighting has helped to modernise this project, as well as helping to maintain its historic architecture.
